The Kurahaupo (Ki Te Waipounamu) Trust


The Kurahaupo Trust is representative of Ngati Apa Ki Te Ra To Waipounamu Trust, Te Runanga o Ngati Kuia Trust and Te Runanga A Rangitane o Wairau Incorporated and comprises three Trustees from each iwi.

Upon gaining a formal mandate the Kurahaupo Trustees are responsible for decisions on negotiators, and their terms of reference (including reporting requirements and decision making powers). Once appointed, the negotiation team will report to the Trustees who will develop a negotiation brief that defines key issues for settlement.

The Kurahaupo Trustees are then required to present any proposed settlement to Ngati Apa, Ngati Kuia and Rangitane and receive ratification of that settlement by Ngati Apa, Ngati Kuia and Rangitane before entering into any binding agreements.
