Role of Kurahaupo draws to a close as individual Iwi Deeds of Settlement Initialled27 August 2010
The role of the Kurahaupo Trust is now drawing to a successful conclusion. Our alliance as Kurahaupo has presented a strong united front from which to negotiate with the Crown and generated powerful momentum for settlement. Most importantly, we have achieved what we received a mandate from our members to do – to negotiate a comprehensive settlement package for our three constituent Iwi.
The Deeds of Settlement for Ngati Apa, Ngati Kuia and Rangitane O Wairau have now been initialled by the Crown. The final stage in the settlement process involves the Ratification (or approval) of the Deeds of Settlement (DOS) by the members of each respective Iwi. Ngati Apa Ki Te Waipounamu Trust, Te Rununga o Ngati Kuia and Te Runanga A Rangitane O Wairau each have responsibility for the ratification of their individual DOS and are undertaking Hui to ensure their members are well informed about their settlement proposal.
